Server Update Print E-mail

Last week (Tues 2nd) we has a server outage that was caused by an unknown problem on our website and email server.  This server is based in a secure datacenter in Brisbane.  The problem was fixed fairly quickly (in a couple of hours) with normal service restored soon after that.

However, we have noticed since that date that there has been a recurring hiccup in the system that causes us to have to reboot the server every 12-18 hours.  Last weekend, we did some emergency maintenance on the server to try to get to the root of the problem, but while we were able to fix the symptoms, we have not been able to pinpoint the cause.

We understand that this is not acceptable as web hosts, and to this end we have decided to replace the entire server with a new one.  This will occur with no extra cost, and with minimal disruption to you, our clients.

Currently,  the change-over is scheduled for this Friday (12/5/06) to begin at 10pm (EST) and will continue till early on Saturday morning.  We expect that all services should be running by 8am (EST) at the latest.

Mail and web services will be disrupted overnight, but will be restored in the early hours of Saturday.  Mail during this period should be stored on the sender's mail server, and it is expected that the mail will then be delivered in bulk when the service is restored.

Friday night has been chosen for the change-over as it is typically a low-traffic and low-impact time to take the server offline.  If you have a critical application or service running during this time, please contact us and we will see if we can make alternative arrangements for you.
