ClientThe Cairns Show is the region's local agricultural and mining show that has been running now since 1891! As the largest Regional Show outside of EKKA, it provides 3 full days of family entertainment, competitions and exhibitions. Service Date2009 Project OverviewThe Cairns Show approached RuttenTech to help update their website, with the aim of updating the look and feel - and also the underlying technology. With regular updates required throughout the year, a website with CMS functionality was the obvious choice. The need for newsletters, secure areas, forms and payments lead us to choose the Joomla! CMS to base their web development on. With a staff and management team to run the operations matters of the show, the organisation is overseen by a committee/board which was involved at several levels through the development of the new website. RuttenTech assisted with regular updates on progress, printed designs for review and meetings for interested committee members. As the show is a unique event with it's own branding and presence, we developed a fully customised CMS design. Starting with sketches, we refined this image and also provided design files for this year's show logo. Some of the design features include the more "generic" headers that do not feature the year (and don't age every 12 months!). We built date specific details such as the show date into the plain text (in the header) along with automatic "countdown" features add to the build-up for the big day. With many areas of content, the Cairns Show website takes advantage of specialised gallery systems for the large number of images and has the ability for the show organisers to "blog" new events about the show as it develops each year. The committee can log into a secure area to download important information - making this website not just a promotional tool, but an organisation tool as well. Another cost-saving aspect of the website is the development of customised competition entry forms - with the Show receiving around 7,000 entries every year, allowing people to register and pay online represents a major administrative cost-saving to the organisation.
