The art of getting your site ridin' the express elevator to the top of Google Tower is known as Search Engine Optimisation, or SEO for short.

Keywords count in SEO – Big time.

Keywords are what you as a user type in when looking for a website. When Google finds a match hey presto! 17 trillion sites containing them come up. So do we lash out the keywords when we write our site content? We don't, because Google will catch you and give you a spanking for spamming and send you to bed, or at least to position 502 on the list.

So... Think of 20 words that people might type in when looking for your site. Then use your top 10 keywords on every page of your site. Each keyword can appear around 6% of the time without arousing Google's ire. For those of you who get vertigo looking at calculator: on a page with 50 words each of your top 10 keywords could appear 3 times.

Kaching! More words overall means more keywords: 100 words on a page = 6 usages of each keyword. Optomised content is a GOOD THING. Getting this into your head is the basis of all good SEO.

Site content is one place to amp up your keywords, there are lots more little places too... Stay tuned.
